PETER KAYE

This is another book I was disappointed in.

It too was all over the place and absolutely full of mistakes, I can’t believe publishers let books go out with mistakes in them – isn’t it someones job to check it through first?

It starts off with Peter having a driving lesson, then he would be talking about school days, then jobs he had had, then back at school, it was hard to follow.

It was quite funny in places.

He is obsessed with films – had to mention different films all through the book.

I couldn’t believe how rude he would be to customers he served in the different jobs he had, I think he needs anger management classes.

My father-in-law read this book before me, he wasn’t impressed either but I thought I would read it for myself and make my own judgement.

It did make me laugh a bit so I give it 4/10.

JIM DAVIDSON

I used to like Jim Davidson, I saw him once at the Town Hall in Oakengates but I must say I wasn’t very keen on the book.

I found it very hard to follow. It started off on his 4th divorce, then how he ended up in rehab, then when he was younger.

It kept changing from one year to the next but not in numerical order, it was all over the place with mistakes in it also.

Jim also came across as very selfish and someone that needed a lot of attension, praise and sympathy. He would be going on how broke he was, then the next minute he had bought property.

I rate this book 3/10 – sorry Jim.

ANT AND DEC

What I liked about this book was that you could imagine the two of them sitting side by side writing this book and butting in on each other.

It was like they are when they are on television, just bouncing off each other – very funny.

It was a good insight into their lives – not all of it I knew about. I didn’t realise they did all the records – just thought they did “ready to rumble”.

I didn’t realise that the television programmes they have done have been their own ideas.

I also didn’t realise how much they like to party – boy these lads can drink!

They have both worked really hard to be where they are today and are still extremely close friends.

Great read – 9/10

GORDON RAMSEY

There was a lot of swearing in this book – surprise, suprise.

It gave a good insight to Gordon behind the media.

He seems a very passionate and gentle – yes gentle, family man.

I enjoy watching Gordon on television because I like the fact that he is so passionate about his work but I don’t agree with him that you need to shout and swear at people all the time.

If I worked for Gordon I would be a nervous wreck!

There was a nice bit in the book were his wife was telling the children off (Tanya deals with the discipline of the children)
They said “we are going to daddy he does shout”.

Even though Gordon is a very busy man he makes sure he has time to spend with his family and children, devoting his week-ends to them.

Gordon even manages to go to the gym 3 times a week and runs 40 miles a week, on top of running all his restaurants – puts the rest of us to shame.

A good read – I give this book 7/10

FEEL – Robbie Williams by Chris Heath

I have read a dozen books so far and this is my favourite at the moment.

Chris spent about 2 years working on the book, going places and staying with Robbie to get an insight into the singers life.

Although there is a lot of swearing in the book it is so funny.

One of the funniest moments was when they were staying in a hotel while on tour and one of the body guards said he was glad they were moving on to another hotel because he wasn’t in an adjoining room to Robbies room like he usually was, he had to go down the corridor to get to him. Robbie said he wondered why no-one came when he knocked on the door – so what door was it – it was the cupboard!

I could just imagine Robbie standing at the cupboard waiting for someone to answer him.

Excellent read, looking out for the sequel.

I rate this book 10/10

“NEXT TO YOU” by Gloria Hunniford

The first auto biography I read was “next to you” by Gloria Hunniford about her daughter Caron Keating.

This was a very moving book. It started off with Caron’s death so the hankies were out from the start!

The thing that moved me the most was when Caron lost her father suddenly.

Although I had a couple of months to prepare for my own father’s death I still went though the same emotions as Caron did – shear grief and depression.

It took Caron 2 years to start to come to terms with her father’s death and now that its 2 years and 4 months since I lost my dad I would say it took 2 years for me to start to come to terms with it also.

I could relate as to how exactly she felt. The hankies were out in force again!

I liked the fact that Gloria talked about her own childhood and up bringing, as well as her daughters.

I didn’t know that Gloria started entertaining (on stage) from the tender age of just 9 years old.

It was interesting reading how Caron found Buddhism.

The sad thing was how many people took advantage of Caron and her husband Russ’s generosity, making out they had a cure.

I didn’t know Caron dated Phillip Schofield either.

This book was a good read although I did get a bit fed up with Gloria referring to Caron as her “beautiful daughter” all the time.

I know she was pretty but I didn’t think there was a need for it everytime she mentioned her.

I would recommend this book to read because it was a moving story and an interesting read.

It will suit women as a read more than men.

I give this book 8/10

BOOKS REVIEWS

My name is Tina Bevan, I live in Market Drayton with my husband Richard Bevan (ex jockey).

When I was younger I read a lot. First of all it was Beatrix Potter – Peter Rabbit.

Then as I got a bit older I was into the Famous 5 by Enid Blyton.

In my teens I went for romance – Mills and Boon – that sort of thing.

Then as I got older I lost interest in books and had an array of different hobbies including, knitting, cross stitching and rug making.

Now I’m in my forties I’ve gone back to reading again, this time autobiographies and biographies.

My husband Richard suggested I wrote a review on the books I have been reading so hence this website.
